Yeah new bushing are on the list..

More battery box rebuild.

made some uprights so the battery would sit level.

Image
Image

The stock hold down mounts to the outside here, and I wanted to move the battery towards the outside to gain a little more clearance for headers and spark plug changes. so I Took the clip off the inner fender and put it on the hold down stud, then...
Image

I drilled a hole here to mount it on the inside.
Image
Image

That moved the battery about a 1/2 closer to the outside, but I wanted more.

So I came up with this... a piece of tube with a sleeve nut welded inside...

Image
Image
Image

Finished welding the bottom on, cut some 3/8 studs, made a hold down strap and bolted it in for a test fit.

It will at some point, just lot's of things to work out when doing that, because its a hatch back, and the battery has to be out of the drivers compartment.

What did you ever decide to do about a fuel cell / tank?

(Guess it wouldn't hurt me to stop and see for myself  )

Yeah stop by sometime and check it out.

We dug out a pinto tank from old race car stuff that we will make work for now, and we had 2 bad senders, so I took the 2 and made one and it works, We are unsure of how accurate it will be. we will see

Got the fuel tank cleaned up we painted it with black hammerite.

Image

Because this is a drag car/street car we wanted to extend the fuel pick up towards the rear so we don't starve the motor for fuel on them hard launch's.
I started out with the stock pickup, and some brass tube, it was a pump can sprayer tube.

Image

Then angle cut the end to increase the intake area.

Image

Got some brass screen to make an intake screen, and soldered it up.

Image

How it sits in the tank, the pickup opening is just below the float.

Lots of little stuff going on,

Engine bay clean up, and new rag joint for the steering.

Short block is assembled, and the cam is being degreed in.

Image

Carb intake & head all mounted to flow bench to get some total numbers on the flow.

Image

Checking the exhaust port with header tube installed.

Our fuel hose for the aux tank to the main tank from Mustangs Unlimited showed up so we install it.

We striped the 25 year old valve covers, then applied some new wrinkle finish, let them dry for 2 days then sanded the surface off.

Go figure, something so simple as a fuel filler connection hose was a special order item. I guess it's never easy right.

Rocker covers came out nice

No kidding, I searched all over the net to try and find 2 1/4" fuel hose with out any luck, then a guy said that the early mustang hose would work so I ordered it.

In Tacoma.....off of Puyallup Ave., a block down from Portland Ave. 627-8163
They stock ALOT of stuff most other industrial supply houses don't have. Be warned....the hose department can be very slow, so if there is a line of two or more people for that department, bring a lunch...haha....

Line Loc Redo..
For those that may not know what that is , its an electric solenoid valve that holds brake pressure on the front brakes only, so burnouts can be done.

This car has had one since the 80's, but now NHRA wants it plumbed different than it was done back then.
Back then it came out of the master cylinder to the line loc, out of the line loc and to the proportioning valve, then to the front wheels.

now it has to go from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve, out of the proportioning valve to the line loc, out of the line loc to the front brakes. Clear as mud huh...lol, the plumbing looks that way also.

The line loc with the new fitting for the redo
Image

New line made from the master cylinder to the proportioning valve, and mocking up where the line loc will now mount.
Image

made a new mounting bracket.
Image
Image

Making up some more lines.
Image

Almost done, one more line to go, had the boy make the last one..
Image

all done painted, bleed brakes, looks like spaghetti glad its done..lol

Greenshields in North Everett is really good too, and they are fast. They made me a set of 4 rebuild-able high pressure fuel lines in about a half hour, which is about normal for them. http://greenshieldsindustrial.com/index.asp?url=IND
